I was first licensed in 1956. I'm a retired video/TV Technician and as a pianist/keyboard player ..
I ran my own band for 40 years playing the Mecca circuit, summer seasons and Clubs.
My first venture in RTTY was in 1962 with a Creed 7B. I worked 132 countries and entered several contests in those days, operating with my home brew SSB exciter and home brew linear, running a pair of 813's and a home brew 3 el beam for 20 metres and a Mosley Elan for 15/10 metres stacked above. I used FSK on the VFO and in those days 850Hz or 850c/s shift.
Now I run MMTTY for DX working on a PC for RTTY and MMVARI or DIGIPAN for PSK. For RTTY/PSK contesting I use N1MM +.
I use a Yaesu FT2000 driving a linear when needed.
Antennas: 4-el SteppIr at 110ft, 4 wavelength per leg on 20 metres rhombic, plus dipoles etc.
I run a DX Cluster, GB7RDX, using the CC-CLuster software with access via Telnet. Please use this address: cluster.g3ldi.co.uk Port 7000
I'm a keen RTTY contester using N1MM with MMTTY on a PC running XP. I also write for PW, Radcom and and have a regular RTTY column in the CDXC magazine. I am the co-ordinator for the RSGB GB2CW Morse Transmission Service, and Programme Secretary for the Norfolk ARC.
Roger Cooke, G3LDI
Roger Cooke joined the committee in 2002. His remit was to provide technical advice. However, he was persuaded by Dick, G3URA, to become Chairman from January 2005.
John has been a committee member since taking over as contest manager in 1990 and was BARTG Chairman from 1990 to 1997. A keen homebrewer, he mainly operates on HF RTTY with a mix of commercial and home built equipment. John has an extensive archive of BARTG and RTTY related material, and a great interest in the theory and history of RTTY contesting.
I have been licensed since August 1972 as G8GNI, but not particularly active until moving to my present QTH in the '90's. I am also licensed as M5AEX (October 1999) when the 5 wpm morse test was briefly introduced. I also hold the US callsign AC8HT.
I am currently active on HF using SSB, RTTY and PSK and VHF using SSB. I have dabbled with SSTV, amateur satellites and weather satellites but prefer data modes overall.
I am a committee member and Treasurer of CDXC (Chiltern DX Club).
I am semi-retired, having undertaken public policy research - mainly for government departments and primarily around employment and uemployment issues, state benefits, tax credits and pensions. I have five children, of whom two are licensed (Leo as M3DXL and Anthony as M6EGY). My wife Mona is also licensed as M6MNA.
Chris G8APB, first licensed way back in the 60's, is now retired from engineering consultancy, and spends a fair time in front of his computer screens and working RTTY, both in general operating and in any RTTY contest that he can find.
Back 30+ years ago he had clanky old Creed machines in his loft shack in the Medway towns. These machines were set on VHF autostart and took many a comic file and paper tape pictures (you can't do this on computers as they won't overprint) the best being a Saturn 5 rocket 7' in length when printed and a whole roll of tape, but it took 4.5 hours to receive... Of course children then interupted some of his activities, and moves to Basingstoke and four Marks in Hampshire meant rebuilding the shack. It was at that time he got involved with BARTG as a committee member with responsibility for VHF contests, and was a colleague of Ted Double G8CDW as HF Contests and Bill Pechey G4CUE as Chairman of BARTG. Work and family matters again intervened and in 1989 a move to the present QTH meant another shack rebuild.
In the 20+ years in Staffordshire , DATA took a back seat for a while, but 8 years ago the shack Mk2 was built and computers installed so interest was again rekindled. But it was only in the last 5 years whilst working in Canada and operating the Calgary DX club monster station VE6AO with the Advanced licence VA6APB that Data has become the over-riding mode of operation. Chris has obtained DXCC and WAS on RTTY with both his callsigns G8APB and VA6APB and was awarded the first BARTG Golden Jubilee award.
Operations on Data have now become the norm at G8APB station and the set-up has grown with the gear brought back from the VE6 QTH. He can operate on all modes from 160m to 23cm, and is a regular in RTTY contests, both BARTG and Worldwide. For his efforts he has been 'rewarded' with expert status in BARTG events.
First licenced in 1986 as G1PIZ now G0LGJ. Main interest is Mobile HF with over 200 countries worked from the car.
Treasurer of Norfolk Amateur Radio Club, and Committee member of the Norfolk Repeater Group holding NOV's for GB3AH, GB7NB (D-STAR) and GB7ND (DMR)
Main interest in data is RTTY.
